Heisman Trophy odds: LSU’s Jayden Daniels is the expected winner
It was Bo Nixs trophy to lose.
And Jayden Daniels is the one benefitting.
With only Championship Week left, Nix was -180 in the odds markets to win the Heisman. All he and the Oregon Ducks needed to do was beat Washington as 10-point neutral-field favorites and the Heisman was his.
Instead, Washington played its best game of the year, downing the Ducks 34-31, winning the Pac-12 and clinching a spot in the College Football Playoff as the No. 2 seed.
Nix played well, completing 21-of-34 passes for 240 yards, seven yards per attempt and three touchdowns while adding 70 rushing yards.

Nix losing that game essentially locked up the Heisman for LSUs Daniels, who’s now the heavy favorite to be crowned college footballs best player of 2023.
The finalists were announced Wednesday morning, and here were the betting odds among those four at BetMGM Sportsbook as of Wednesday.
Heisman is not currently eligible to be bet on, but these were the final odds that oddsmakers put out as of Wednesday.

Daniels likely deserves the award. He was hamstrung by a pathetic Tigers defense, which cost the team three losses, but he willed his team to nine wins by scoring at will.
Daniels led FBS quarterbacks in Total EPA and EPA per Play. He became the 11th FBS quarterback to throw for more than 3,000 yards and rush for more than 1,000 yards in the same season, finishing the year with an incredible 4,946 total yards and 50 total touchdowns.
He posted the second-highest Pro Football Focus passing grade, and no quarterback had a higher grade on throws 20-plus yards downfield.

That likely makes Daniels the most valuable player of the year.
Nix, Penix and Marvin Harrison Jr. had a great team surrounding them, but Daniels had to compensate for one of the nations worst defenses — LSU finished the season with FBS’s best scoring offense (46.4 PPG) but 80th-ranked scoring defense (27.8 PPG allowed).
The Tigers only won games when Daniels out-scored his defense.

Harrison also could be the Heisman, given he carried Kyle McCord and the Buckeyes passing attack, accounting for almost 40 percent of Ohio States aerial output on an 11-win team.
It can be argued that Harrison was the best pure player in college football this season, and he’ll likely be picked in the NFL draft before any of the other three finalists.
That said, Daniels deserves his roses. I would be shocked if he werent announced as the winner on Dec. 10 in New York.
He put up the most yards, was the most valuable to his team and posted an offensive season that rivals Joe Burrow’s 2019 Heisman-winning campaign.

If you have a Daniels ticket from earlier in the season, especially after the Tigers lost to Alabama, congrats on a big cash. I certainly never thought he could overcome three losses to earn the voters love.
