Michael Strahan and his daughter Isabella, 19, reveal her brain cancer diagnosis in emotional ‘GMA’ interview
Michael Strahan’s daughter Isabella is battling a malignant brain tumor known as a medulloblastoma. An MRI scan led to the diagnosis in October 2023.
A medulloblastoma is a fast-growing cancerous brain tumor that develops in the cerebellum, the back of the brain where movement and coordination are controlled.
The father-and-daughter pair revealed the emotional news during a “Good Morning America” segment with Robin Roberts on Thursday.
“Today my daughter @IsabellaStrahan joined @RobinRoberts and myself for an interview about the journey she has been going through on @GMA,” he wrote via Instagram. “I love you Isabella and Im always by your side. To all sending love, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!”

7An MRI scan led to Isabella’s diagnosis in October 2023. Heidi Gutman/ABCDuring the sit-down, the University of Southern California freshman revealed that it has been “two months of keeping it quiet, which has been difficult.”
Isabella, who noted that she doesn’t want to “hide” her journey anymore, “didnt notice anything was off til probably like Oct. 1.”
Thats when I definitely noticed headaches, nausea, couldnt walk straight,” she said. One morning, she notified her family that she was “throwing up blood.”
After undergoing a battery of tests, including an MRI, she learned of her fast-growing, 4-centimeter tumor that was larger than a golf ball after being rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A.

I dont really remember much, he said. I just remember trying to figure out how to get to LA ASAP. And it just doesnt feel real. It just didnt feel real.
She underwent brain surgery in late October, followed by rehabilitation and six weeks of radiation treatment. In February, she will begin chemotherapy at Duke University, which her twin sister, Sophia, attends.
“I’m feeling good, not too bad. I’m very excited for this whole process to wrap, but you just have to keep living every day through the whole thing,” she explained.

“With my platform, I hope to just kind of be a voice and be a person who people who maybe are going through something similar, going through chemotherapy or radiation, can look at and just hear and just watch, or find something interesting about their day,” she said. “I’m just excited for that.”
Strahan, for his part, wasn’t sure at first if Isabella wanted to share her story.
“This is something that is so personal,” he told Roberts, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. “But her idea was, ‘I want to share it and I want to help other people,’ and that goes into the spirit of who she’s always been.”

“I know she’s going through it, but I know that we’re never given more than we can handle,” he went on. “She is going to crush this.”
“I know this has been tough, but you keep living, Isabella,” he added. “We love you. We’re here for you and you got this.”

“It’s hard for me to even watch that. You hope your kids will never experience any kind of pain,” he said. “We are there to make sure she has the love and support that she needs. I am thankful that you allowed her to share her story. Robin I appreciate you for making her feel comfortable.”
The health news comes after Strahan was mysteriously absent from “GMA” for three weeks for “personal family matters.” He made his return on Nov. 15, but never explained his hiatus at the time.
The TV personality shares Isabella and Sophia with his second ex-wife, Jean Muggli. He’s also dad to daughter Tanita, 32, and son Michael Jr., 29, whom he shares with his first wife, Wanda Hutchins.
