Matthew McConaughey went through all the emotions during Texas’ heartbreaking CFP loss
Matthew McConaughey must be exhausted after watching his beloved Texas Longhorns fall to the Washington Huskies in the College Football Playoff on Monday.
The Academy Award winner, who’s a diehard Longhorns fan, was prominently featured on ESPN’s multiple broadcasts as he took in the action from the sidelines in New Orleans, where Texas made its first CFP appearance in the Sugar Bowl.
McConaughey went from hyping up players, slapping helmets and cheering to looking defeated when the second-ranked Huskies (14-0) celebrated a 37-31 victory over No. 3 Texas (12-2).
With one second to play and a six-point Huskies lead over the Longhorns, McConaughey was seen with both arms in the air.
But his hopes were crushed when Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers threw a fade to a tightly covered Adonai Mitchell and it was knocked away by Washington cornerback Elijah Jackson.

The 54-year-old actor was seen pacing and passionately preaching to Texas players on the sidelines, and joined ESPN’s Field Pass crew for commentary in the second quarter.
He left the announcers saying he had to find a better position to watch the action.
“I can’t keep looking at the damn screen,” McConaughey said.
Kenny Mayne also quipped that McConaughey was “illegally inside the players’ box” while on the sidelines.

“What a journey this season,” he wrote early Tuesday morning. “Didnt end how we wanted, proud of this @texasfootball team – hats off to the huskies.
McConaughey shared a separate video message on X last month, when he encouraged the Longhorns to “run Washington out of New Orleans” in the Sugar Bowl.

Washington will face No. 1 Michigan next Monday night in Houston, in a quest for their first national championship since 1991 and the Pc-12’s first since USC in 2004.
