Derek Jeter admits he was ‘too selfish’ to have kids during Yankees career
Yankees legend Derek Jeter got candid about his hectic life before settling down with his wife, Sports Illustrated model Hannah Davis.
The Fox Sports MLB analyst joined his colleagues, Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson, on the latest installment of the “Calm Down” podcast, and explained why he was “too selfish” to start a family during his illustrious 20-year MLB career.
“I’ll be honest with you,” the 49-year-old Jeter said. “There is no way I could have had kids during my career. I just, I couldn’t have done it.
“I was way, way, way too selfish. I was all about my career.”
Jeter explained that after Andrews opened up about balancing her full-time job as a sideline reporter with Fox and being a new mom.
The WEAR by EA founder and her husband, retired NHL player Jarret Stoll, welcomed a baby boy, Mack, via surrogate this past summer.
The Jeters are parents to daughters Bella Raine, 6, Story Grey, 4, and River Rose, 2, and son, Kaius Green, who was born in May 2023.

“It’s so hard when you have kids I don’t care if it’s one kid, I have four kids you want to be there, and then when you miss a day or two, you come back and they completely change.
“We have four kids, our oldest is six, our youngest is seven months — talk about how time flies.”

“It’s the greatest experience,” Jeter said about being a parent.
Derek and Hannah tied the knot in July 2016.
The couple is fairly private about their personal life, but the MLB legend opened up about what a typical day in the Jeter household looks like.

“I hear everything, even when there is nothing to hear, I think I hear babies crying and screaming. I get up early and go to sleep early,” he said.
Even Jeter’s Instagram bio reads: “Sleep-deprived father of four.”
“We get the big girls up, they get breakfast and drop them off at school at 7:30. Our third just turned two so she doesn’t start school until August, so it’s back with her and my son, who’s still napping a little bit.”

Jeter said things are “all over the place,” but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
He’s also adjusting to not being the only man in the house.
“I’d say the craziest thing for me is, I have a younger sister, five years younger than me, and having three girls, it’s the strangest thing seeing a boy now,” he said.
“Because I didn’t grow up with brothers … I think I’m pretty good with girls, so I’m struggling in this department right now.”
Jeter went on to gush over his favorite part about being a dad.
“Seeing them grow,” he said. “Watching them learn and display manners, that is the thing … I love coming home and them learning new things.”
