‘Mattress Mack’ jinxes Texas Longhorns in brutal $1 million ‘CFP’ betting loss
New year, same sports betting results from everyone’s favorite furniture salesman, Mattress Mack.
The new year began a lot like the previous one ended for Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale as another huge bet missed.
Mattress Mack announced last week that he bet $1 million on the Texas Longhorns to win the national title.
“On Friday night, I drove to Louisiana to bet on my phone,” McIngvale said, according to FOX Sports. “I have an enormous passion for UT football.”
The $1 million bet at +270 odds at Caesars Sportsbook would have profited $2.7 million had favored Texas downed the Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl.
In total, McIngvale has lost $10,2 million on the College Fotball Playofs in his sports betting career. Including $6.15 million lost on Alabama to beat Georgia a year ago and then $3.1 million on TCU to oust Georgia in the national title game. .
But the Huskies held on for dear life, standing tall in the final seconds to keep Texas out of the end zone in their 37-31 victory.
Texas was expected to advance as they held -190 odds on the moneyline (65.52 percent implied) and were four-point favorites.
The Longhorns could not contain Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr., as he threw for 430 yards and two touchdowns to advance the Huskies to the national title game against Michigan.

He lost $7.9 million on the Astros in 2023 as the team fell at home to the Rangers in Game 7 of the ALCS, and he also lost several bets on the Houston Cougars to win the NCAA Tournament.
The top-seeded Cougars lost to Miami in the Sweet 16.
