Dave Portnoy ending gambling retirement to bet $1 million on Michigan vs. Alabama
Alabama bettors can rejoice: Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is apparently out of gambling retirement and putting $1 million on the Michigan Wolverines.
“I will be betting 1 million on Michigan. That’s how confident I am,” Portnoy wrote on X.
Portnoy did take out his frustrations on the College Football Playoff Committee, which decided to leave Florida State out of the playoffs despite an undefeated record.
“FSU GOT SCREWED. FEED ME BAMA,” Portnoy said.
Michigan likely would’ve been favored by at least two scores against the Seminoles, who are missing stud quarterback Jordan Travis.
Florida State is a 14-point underdog to Georgia in the Orange Bowl.
“I like the Crimson Tide, I like their fans, the hospitality, Roll Tide Willie; I’m friends with Nick Saban’s daughter Kristen. I like all of it, but we’re going to have to take it out on you,” Portnoy said in a video on X. “We’re going to have to curb-stomp you … Michigan’s coming. We’re going to have to kill the SEC once and for all.”
Michigan has opened as a short favorite, coming in as a 1.5-point favorite on FanDuel Sportsbook in a pivotal New Year’s Day matchup.
A $1 million bet on FanDuel for Michigan to win the game outright (-118 odds) would profit $847,457.63.
But as far as we can tell, Portnoy’s sports betting results have been brutal.

Portnoy lost a notable amount on the Bengals in the wake of Joe Burrow’s season-ending wrist injury.
He claims to have gotten “half a quarter” out of a $70,000 bet on them to win the Super Bowl and $100,000 against the Ravens, among others.
He also lost an undisclosed wager amount on the Buffalo Bills in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, which caused the 46-year-old Portnoy to claim he was done with gambling.

“I retire 10 times a week. When I’m going bad, I quit and retire every day,” Portnoy said of his retiring and un-retiring gambling habits.
Portnoy declared bankruptcy in 2004 due in part to poor gambling habits.
That Portnoy is this confident that his alma mater, Michigan, will defeat Saban and the Crimson Tide could be good news for Alabama.
Nick Saban is 8-2 against top-ranked teams in his career, including Saturday’s SEC Championship game win over Georgia, per The Ringer.
