St. John’s Nahiem Alleyne suffers ‘pretty bad’ injury in Marquette loss
St. Johns is expected to be without guard Nahiem Alleyne for a while.
The graduate transfer from Connecticut suffered a sprained right ankle in the first half of the Johnnies 73-72 loss to No. 17 Marquette on Saturday.
Alleyne awkwardly fell on teammate Chris Ledlums foot while going for a rebound with 11:14 left in the opening half and didnt return.
He was seen on crutches after the game.
I would say so, coach Rick Pitino said, when asked if Alleyne would be out a significant amount of time. Its pretty bad. Its not a fracture or break. Its a sprain.
St. Johns was also without guard Jordan Dingle, still sick after testing positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
With Alleyne out, freshman Simeon Wilcher could see a larger role.
In nine minutes in the loss to Marquette, he had three assists, two rebounds and no turnovers, but didnt take a shot.

3St. John’s head coach Rick Pitino is juggling a roster missing some key pieces. APPitino revealed he is adjusting the in-between games plan with RJ Luis Jr., the talented sophomore wing.
Luis has been dealing with chronic shin splints and has been practicing on a very limited basis to manage the discomfort.
Pitino is switching it up, having Luis practice fully one day, and rest the following day ahead of a game.
