Texas Tech’s Pop Isaacs accused of sexually assaulting minor on team trip to Bahamas
Texas Tech’s Pop Isaacs, a starting guard on the men’s basketball team, has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor during the Red Raiders’ November trip to the Bahamas, according to multiple reports.
The civil lawsuit was filed in Lubbock County District Court.
The girl, who was 17 at the time, claims she was sexually assaulted by the sophomore guard during the alleged incident.
The age of consent in the Bahamas is 16.
However, the lawsuit, which was reportedly filed by her parents, claims that the girl was “intoxicated” and unable to give consent as Isaacs allegedly “intentionally, knowingly and recklessly engaged in unconsented physical, offensive and sexual contact,” according to The Athletic.
The Red Raiders were playing at the Battle 4 Atlantis on Paradise Island at the time.
The lawsuit is seeking $1 million in damages, according to ESPN, and alleges that a Texas Tech booster purchased alcoholic beverages for Isaacs and a teammate while they were in a room with a 17- and 16-year-old girl.

Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland was contacted by the girl’s parents on Dec. 14, according to The Athletic, and he reported it to university officials, including athletic director Kirby Hocutt.
Texas Tech reported the incident to its Title IX office, which has started its own investigation and “will continue to follow its process until it is completed, regardless of the civil lawsuit,” the university wrote in a statement Friday.
Athletics reached out to the Title IX office on two occasions and was informed both times that based upon the information, Pop Isaacs remains in good standing, and there is no reason to withhold him from university activities, including basketball competition,” the university continued in its statement, according to The Athletic.
