How to Play DraftKings Pick6: Strategy, Payouts, and Rules
DraftKings Pick 6 is a new way to play daily fantasy and has multiple unique aspects!
What is DraftKings Pick6?
DraftKings Pick6 is a peer-to-peer DFS/pick’em game in a contest format. Players compete against each other by building lineups of players in a sport where you choose for them to either under or overperform a unique statistical projection!
For example, Patrick Mahomes more or less than 269.5 passing yards! Another one for the Super Bowl is Christian McCaffrey more or less than 96.5 rushing yards.
How do you play DraftKings Pick6?
There is both a mobile app and a desktop platform for you to play on. The first step is to build your “pick set.” This is essentially your collection of picks. Sticking with the same theme as above, let’s say you picked Patrick Mahomes more than 269.5 passing yards and McCaffrey more than 96.5 rushing yards.
After that, you enter the total amount of entry fees you would like to play for, typing that in below your picks.
Before you submit your picks, Pick6 will show you which contests you are in and the estimated prize amounts!

How do DraftKings Pick6 Payout work?
Since Pick6 is a peer-to-peer game, payouts are a bit unique relative to other pick’em apps in the space. Prizes are “estimated” at the beginning but can vary widely based on how many people got the same number of picks as you correct. They explained it best:
A 5-Pick NFL contest with a $10,000 total prize pool may have the following prize structure:
- 5/5 Correct Splits $8,000
- 4/5 Correct Splits $2,000
In this example, if the contest ended with 320 entries having 5/5 correct, each entry would win $25 ($8,000 / 320 = $25). If you had 2 entries in the contest among the 320 winning entries, your total prizes for the contest would be $50 ($25 x 2 = $50).
“Estimated payouts” are as follows (based on $100 entry fees)
2-Picks: $2503-Picks: $4204-Picks: $740
5-Picks
- 5/5 correct: $941
- 4/5 correct: $126
6 picks
- 6/6 correct: $1,865
- 5/6 correct: $195
Again, actual payouts will vary, and DraftKings will update you live based on how your picks look against the rest of your competition. This type of contest can lead to some massive volatility, especially if you go against the grain. If you think everyone is going to be on McCaffrey’s under, betting his over could be even more advantageous because it could flip contest entries in your favor to win even more.

DraftKings Pick 6 Contest Distribution
This might seem a bit confusing, but DraftKings handles this for you. When you decide to put in $10 of entry fees, they will tell you which contests your “entries” are being distributed into! As they mentioned on their site: “To ensure a consistent entry experience, all participants’ entries are distributed in the same manner across eligible contests.”
They will be distributed in this fashion:
- Contests where you have no entries; then
- Contests where you have no entries of the current lineup being entered, but have entries of other Pick Set(s); the
- Contests where you already have entries of the current Pick Set being entered. If the number of contests in (1), (2), or (3) above are equal, your entries will be placed in the contests in which you have the fewest number of total entries, irrespective of Pick Set, followed by the contests with the lowest percentage of seats filled at the time of entry submission.
