NBA DFS picks: PrizePicks players to target in Nets-Rockets, Timberwolves-Pelicans
As the new year begins and the NFL season starts to wind down, well shift our focus to some NBA action on PrizePicks.
Its a loaded Wednesday slate in the NBA with 12 games on the docket.
Lets get into it and kick off 2024 with a bang.
Jalen Green more than 2.5 3-pointers made
Fantasy NBA is so unlike any of the other major sports.
Players are most frequently injured or resting compared to the other professional leagues.
When one player sits, his teammates are often thrust into much different roles. Sometimes, we can find some bad numbers across the industry when sites havent adjusted to those unique one-game situations.
Adm Silver has done his best to crack down on injury management, but were still seeing players sit on a regular basis.
However, Dillon Brooks is truly hurt Wednesday and hell miss Houstons matchup with Brooklyn. That puts Jalen Green in a fantastic spot.

As for the matchup, Brooklyn doesnt play exceptionally fast, but the Nets rank just 24th in defensive rating this season.
According to the RotoGrinders CourtIQ tool, Green gets a whopping 6.8% usage increase this season without Brooks on the floor. He should have the opportunity to be the alpha scorer Wednesday like he often was last season.
Green averages 5.9 more points, 1.5 more 3-pointers made,and 3.3 more 3-point attempts per 36 minutes without Brooks. I like all of these numbers for Green vs. the Nets, but 3-pointers made and more than 19.5 points are my two favorites.
Lauri Markkanen more than 22.5 points
The biggest problem with targeting Jazz players is that the team just isnt very good. Will these guys get the minutes to produce?
Utah is finally playing better basketball, winning five of its last six games.
Luckily for Utah, Detroit is on the schedule Weddnesday and the Jazz are 8.5-point favorites.
I think theres a good shot we see a full allotment of playing time for key players, who would typically not get much fourth-quarter burn in a blowout.
Markkanen has eclipsed this number in 9 of 11 games when he has logged at least 34 minutes. And in that 10-game sample, he faced some rugged defenses such as Cleveland, Denver, Minnesota, Memphis, Phoenix (twice) and the L.A Clippers. All of those teams rank in the top half of the NBA in defensive rating.
It cant be a shock that Detroit is not in the top half of the league defensive rating, right? In fact, the Pistons rank 26th in defensive rating and sixth in pace.

The Minnesota star has been on a mini-heater across the last 10 days, but this number is just a tick too high. Edwards is averaging 26.3 points per game this season. This number must be inflated due to his torrid stretch of play, because the matchup is not good.
There has been plenty of drama and speculation surrounding Zion Williamson and the Pelicans this season, but one thing has remained consistently good for New Orleans.
Defense.
There isnt much defense in the NBA, but at least the Pels are trying. They rank seventh overall in defensive rating this season, and across their last 10 games theyre second.

They have a ton of length and defensive mogul Herbert Jones is sure to draw the main assignment on Edwards on Wednesday.
The game total is currently listed at 222.5. A few years ago, this game would have been a fantasy goldmine. But each season, defensive ratings continue to plummet, and scoring becomes much easier.
This is considered a low-scoring game in 2023! Its the third-lowest total on Wednesdays 12-game slate. I sure miss basketball of the 1990s and early 2000s!
